Who We Are

Adam Westermayer
Head Coach
I started my playing career at Loyola University Chicago, playing one and a half seasons and earned playing time off the bench against University of Chicago, DePaul, Northwestern, and a scrimmage match with the Chicago Lions Rugby Football Club.
Joined Sunday Morning Rugby Football Club in St. Louis, Missouri after graduation. Played 3 years, earned time off the bench in A-side matches, started in B-Side matches, and earned a starting role toward the end of my time with them.
Joined Asheville Rugby Football Club after moving to North Carolina. Played 3.5 years, earned time off the bench in A-side matches with some starting opportunities, started in B-side matches, and quickly earned a starting role in most every A-side match.
Accolades with Asheville Rugby Football Club:
-
Consistent starting role as scrum half for the better part of 2.5 years, managing our team through many test-level matches played at a high level
-
Earned Man of the Match, Most Improved Player, and Iguana Award given to the player who makes the biggest impact on and off the field
-
Regularly Captained and played in full B-side matches after playing A-side
-
Served Social Chair, Treasurer, Line Judge, Player/Coach for Rugby 7's, but most importantly, bench warmer and waterboy during my injuries or before earning playing time
-
Instrumental in establishing strong sponsorship relationships with partners and alumni who are still committed to the club now
-
Participated in planning and execution of annual Rugby 7's tournament responsible for the bulk of our revenue growth for the year
-
Multiple Spring/Fall seasons without losing a match, participated in tallying +100 points scored in a single game
-
Multiple Men's Division III Championships won and an appearance/playing time at a Division III Southern Regional Championship
-
Partnered with local non-profits to clean up rivers, pick up and dispose of waste along the road near our pitch, and organized dry/canned goods for a food pantry during the holidays
As Head Coach I have one goal: to establish a high-performance rugby team culture that creates high-performance rugby team players - the most important word being Team.
Jed Thompson
Assistant Coach, President of the Board
I started playing rugby in 1999 with the Kaneohe Bay Sharks, Hawaii. After 3 practices I was the starting tight head prop and never looked back. After returning to Wisconsin in 2002, I played with the Oshkosh Mighty Pigs for several years during college and after.
After being forced into an early playing retirement due to my work schedule I returned to the pitch in 2017 as a referee. As of 2025 I am one of the most active referees in Wisconsin. Most Saturdays I can be found in the center at the highest level rugby games being played in the area.
At the start of the 2024 season I learned that Nicolet Rugby, who my son played for at the time, would no longer be supported by the school. When Coach Gabe and Coach Joe stated that they would be stepping back to spend time with their young families I feared that Wisconsin would lose another youth rugby program. My love for rugby would not let this happen. With the help of Coach Joe and Coach Gabe I founded North Shore Legion Rugby UA, the non-profit organization is dedicated to supporting youth rugby in the North Shore Area. I am committed to providing the support and equipment that will allow Coach Adam to focus on leading a team of young rugby players.
